GBHS swimming pool

Since 2002 it has been a specialist sports college, one of only seven in all of Essex. In July 2011 it converted to academy status with a sports specialism.

The school has an indoor, heated swimming pool, three large playing fields, a gymnasium and sports hall. The GBHS Basket Ball teams perform well in national competitions – the girls team have won the National Schools Basketball competition in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010.

Students are divided into four separate school houses when they start their first year. These houses are then used for inter-house sport competitions.
