On Friday night there was a major fire in a block of flats on Harberd Tye in Great Baddow. Harberd Tye is just to the west of Beehive Lane.
It is thought that the fire started in the roof space and top floor of a three-story block.
It took fire crews from Chelmsford and Great Baddow 90 minutes to control the fire and it was out by 5am.
The building received extensive damage and currently we do not know if residents will be able to move back.
It is thought that an electrical fault was the cause of the fire.
30 people homeless
30 people are homeless following the fire; the building may be salvageable.
The flats are owned / managed by Moat, a leading housing association in the South East.
The entire roof has been destroyed and it is likely that no possessions or furniture survived the fire.
Eye witnesses reported hearing screams and smashing glass in the early hours of Saturday morning.
