The old bank in Great Baddow is finally being refurbished. In the last few days workmen have been inside the building.
Update: a sign appeared today (13th March 2014) and it is in fact a new shop, Junior Trading Post.
The Bank Chambers at 26 High Street, Great Baddow, was once home to Hull & Company Chartered Surveyors and Estate Agents. According to the Companies In The UK website, they moved out in 1986!
Most recently the building was used by ThyssenKrupp Elevator, and the building appears to be officially named ThyssenKrupp Elevator, judging by the most recent planning application. They were in the building for around 30 years but departed three years ago.
At the moment we do not know who is moving in or what type of business it will be. However, a search of Chelmsford City Council planning applications reveals the following:
In July 2012 a planning application was made by Stewart Heath to “use of premises for retail, instruction of pilates and yoga, physiotherapy and osteopathic treatments / consultations and educational workshops”.
Stewart Heath owns Bodysense UK Ltd. Bodysense currently run four Pilates classes in Great Baddow Parish Hall every week.
The Design and Access Statement provided by Mr Stewart Heath stated that there will be two studios, two offices, a kitchen and toilets. The planning documents mention the removal of partition walls to create fitness studios, so this may be what we are seeing at the moment,
Confirmation regarding this development will be coming soon. We have attempted to contact Mr Heath via his LinkedIn page and are still waiting to hear back from him.
The full details of the application can be seen on the Chelmsford City planning website:
If it is not Mr Heath’s development then it really will be a big surprise!
